The person responsible for the wellbeing of the important Covenant Members- primarily Magi - wherever they are, including on the road. Distinct from (though in charge of) the person who runs the Covenant building.
The Steward is a servant/member to House Mercere. He is treated with the same respect as a redcap, though he may not necessarily be one. He has looked after and has travelled with Umberto for almost 20 years, who sees him as a father and close friend.
He has some martial ability, but he excels at organisation and his attention to detail is remarkable. Curiously he always seems to know what is going on. Nothing seems to escape his notice and people genuinely appear to like him. He expects the best of people and those working for him find themselves trying to live up to his expectations though they probably don't realise it.
The Steward is about 40 years old.
As Umberto travels to Egypt, the Steward accompanies him.
